How To Clean Suction Cup

A while back some explained how to clean a suction cup. My thermometer isn't sticking to the glass. How can I clean it?

Boil it for 3o seconds or use bleach, wash thoroughly after though..

Will that soften it up again? The problem I usually run into is that they get hard over time.

For the black rubber yeah.. the larger clear ones seem to flatten out and loose the suction, i clean them and the glass as best as possible and press real hard while supporting the glass behind..

I've always found most spring back to shape when dropped into boiling water

Vinegar works for me. If it's buildup. I haven't kept fish long enough to have suction cups harden.
