I just bought a new CO2 cylinder and regulator/solenoid/bubble counter.

This is probably a really dumb question, and I probably have nothing to worry about, but if I attach the bubble counter to the reg and fill it with water, how do I know that water won't filter down into the regulator and damage it?

You could easily do the following:

regulator > tube > check valve > tube > bubble counter > tube > diffuser, but that would defeat the purpose of having the bubble counter being attached to the regulator itself.

I'm just wondering how water is prevented from entering the reg in this configuration.

built in check valve. many people also use mineral oil allows you to count the bubbles better.

even if there wasnt a check valve solenoid closes water couldnt get past that and when its open the psi of the tank would keep it out.
