moving goldfish in to old tropical tank

i was just wondering if i would need to take the water out and would i need 2 do anything else after the tropical fish have been moved and before the gold fish go in??

My opinion is to make a 50% water change, and then introduce the goldfish.
Don't mess with the filter, maybe just a regular vacuum to the gravel.

Thanks for the advice so would I just put them straight in after the water change?
