any ideas on what fish to put in a 40 litre hexagonal tank

Are you after a single fish or a group? What about inverts? 40L is about 10 gallons if you want to search some other threads. A hex tank has less horizontal swimming space than a standard rectangle one so that has to be taken into consideration.

a group of fish preferably i am limited to a hex tank because of the space available

There are a number of nano fish species that would do well but is the tank going to be planted?
