He had a white cotton sticking out wen this morning. Is it his wen growing? Or something else?

Any oranda keepers come across this? My orandas wen has white patches, earlier he had a piece of white cotton. I'm not sure if his wen is growing or is it an infection. Any ideas would be appreciated for him. He's in my sick tank, treating him with maracyn and maracyn 2
