Plant bunches

Have a question,
When I buy plants from my Lfs they are ringed together with a soft metal coil (I think it's metal anyway) now do I leave that ring/coil on or do I take it off
this is what I'm talking about

You can leave it or remove it and spread the stems out. The weights just help keep the plants weighed down without having to plant them in the substrate. It also keeps them bunched together and organized while in a store display.
