Removal of plastic trip going through tank

Can I cut this plastic strip out of my tank?

I figure that this is what's holding the tank together.

No its not that I just hate the way it looks and I have a friend with the same tank and his does not have that brace. What is it for anyway?

The center brace is there so the tank doesn't now out and explode and dump all your fish and water on your floor. They sell rimless tanks now. There becoming more popular.
