Replacing top frame/brace

Measure it before you put any time into it, make sure it will fit. A razorblade(box cutting/carpenter knife) just cut underneath the brace where the silicone is. Cut the inside and outside. Just be careful when trying to pull it off there will be some silicone on the top inside where you can't get to. Pull slow. Careful, careful, careful. Lol! Good luck.
 
I have fish in it. Would leaving less than a quarter of the water be fine when changing them? Is there a way to loosen the silicone that is on the top side?
 
The water would be fine 1/4 or a little more full. It should come off pretty easy when you get the inside and outside cut. Just cut as high as you can up to the top part.
