You can also try using a plastic slotted spoon (I have spoons just for my tank). I use them to sift my sand substrate.

Obviously, with gravel, it'll be more difficult than with sand.

Hey that's not a bad idea. I can use something similar and the shells will fall through but the gravel will stay in. I'll try something like that. Thanks. At least I know that its not gonna drive my nitrates up high. I think that occurred because of cleaning my biological filter to close to the other filtration. Its like im starting from scratch. Bummer.
