Hi All – I have a couple of questions as I seem to be getting some odd test results with my new tank which is currently cycling.

Tank is a 3 gallon bowl, its heavily planted and will be used for some shrimp. The plan is to have no filter and small heater, currently the heater is on the way so it’s currently sitting at room temperature.

I started the cycling process on Friday, I used a pinch of fish food and fluval cycle to kick everything off, this seemingly began to work as ammonia levels increased, along with nitrites and nitrates.

This morning I have run the tests again and I am getting 0.5 ppm mg/l ammonia and zero nitrites and nitrates – this obviously seems wrong. I’ve re-tested to ensure the validity with two different test kits so I believe them to be accurate (JBL & API).

Does anyone have any ideas? Feels like my cycle has some how potentially stalled.

I’ve attached some graphs of my tank parameters below;

Is it currently planted? Plants could be using up nitrogenous compounds.
