Torch and Frogspawn Frag Question

Happy Holiday's everyone!!! I purchased some frag from a guy and he had them epoxied to live rock. I want to remove them from the rocks but this idiot covered the base with epoxy. How short can the "stalk" be before it starts affecting the polyps?
