what type of eel is this please

as the title says, please can anyone tell me what type of eel this is and any info relating to it. future son in law had this given to him with a tank he recently bought.

First to say that's not an eel, but he looks familiar but can't place the name just yet..

looks to be a "java loach" Pangio oblonga... at least that's my best guess... not as long as the pic, but if you look in the Google image search it shows a lot of slightly different body styles
