I've had this reef tank up and running for years now and have never had an algae problem besides the occasional slight build up on the glass. This red slime appeared a couple weeks ago and I can get rid of it. I've been cleaning it daily but it grows incredibly fast. Anyone know what kind of algae this is and how to treat it? I've been having trouble identifying it online.

cyanobacteria

check your nitrates and phosphates, do water changes and try and pull out as much of it as you can. feed a little bit less and if you have a skimemr make sure the pump isn't gunked up and skimming properly

That`s what it is. We have an excellent article on it in our SW articles section.

Thanks. I'm sure now that's what it is... I've been experimenting with new foods and feeding schedules, feeding a little more than usual the last couple of weeks. I'll go back to my old feeding regiment. Thanks again.
