I have recently set up an African cichlid tank and have no idea what type of fish this is other than that I'm pretty sure it's a Malawi mbuna.

I'm thinking that it might be Pseudotropheus demasoni. But i am not 100%. Might also be a Crabro blue too.

I thought he could be a demasoni as well but his markings aren't as defined and his black isn't as pronounced. He is the alpha in my tank and is beautiful. The crabro is a good possibility too. His doesn't have black stripes really though. It's sort of like a stitch pattern. --|--|--|--|-<

I think I agree with the Johanni diagnosis. Thanks everyone!!

Hes a pseudotropheus elongatus ornatus (nice females for that species to, nice yellow and black)

Definitely not a ps elongatus. I have 2 in my tank and this guy is way different !

He is 100% lol ive had these before, type them in on google, forgot to add the likoma part at the end 'ornatus likoma'.. Some have the faint horizontal stripes as well as vertical stripes, if you get wilds or F1s (good quality) then they just have the vertical stripes.

I see what you mean, thank you. There are a number of types he could be at this rate lol

Any idea what this little guy is? He was in a tank labelled blue haps lol. Definitely not.

Yeah their both elongatus species, the body is to elongated to be a Melanochromis johanni. He is a ornatus (may not be the best example) but he is one guaranteed. Don't have to believe me just my opinion :)

This is the female I use to have:

lol nope your right there certainly not a hap, im not a 100% sure, it's got a labidochromis Hongi female look (very slightly) with the yellowish anal fin.

Lol well thank you very much. I agree with you on what it is. I appreciate your feedback!! And the female is absolutely adorable!!

Any time :) I didn't mean to come across abrupt or anything just putting my opinion out there and your welcome, like i say im not 100% sure on that fish, time will tell as it grows a little (y)

By the way the pictures of your tank are awesome!! Looks great :)
