Im not sure an arowana could even be rehomed in adequate thriving living conditions once it grows up. I mean, who could take it in?

Public aquarium That's about the only place I can think of.
 
Any state..Arowanas are fairly hardy fish, although not for a beginner. Biggest thing with aro's in a pond is temperature regulation/stability. Most arowana keepers use 8ft or bigger aquariums. Def not a fish you can keep in a 4-6ft tank

Especially when an adult is closer to 3 feet long..

Wild caught can get past 5 feet. That is huge.

When i bought my latest tank the owner had a 12" Aro in it... Beautiful fish but in a few months it would've put on mire size so i re-sold it for big dollars $$$$
