After doing some heavy studying of my thorichthys affinis. My group of 6 is entirely male. A real bummer. So I'm thinking of switching gears. I've got a couple ideas. I could use some input. My tank is a unique size. It's a 75 gallon but it's 5 foot long by 18 wide by 16 tall. I wanted to bounce some ideas around. I'm looking for central American preferably in the 6-8 inch range. I'm looking for input and possible pictures.

I think you like to keep the uncommon; keeping Affinis, instead of Meeki, looking for Bartoni instead of Carpintis. IMO that's a good thing. I also have a five foot tank, 120 gal. I like CA cichlids as well, but I don't run a 100% CA bio type. Mine is more of a mixed bag, which include CA' s and CA hybrids.
I keep or have kept: Firemouth / Salvini / Carpintis-Red Texas / Flowerhorn-short body-female
EBJD / EBA / Convicts. I'd recommend all the listed, except "Convicts".
I realize Firemouths and Salvini s are very common, but if you shop around, uniquely colored ones can be found. A standard Green Texas Carpintis is a stunning fish, but you might try a Red Texas Carpintis hybrid Cichlid. I've got a beautiful unfaded one. I'll post a few pics of mine. Good luck with your new set up.

Those are all good looking fish you got there. Hybrids aren't really my cup of tea. Some do look great, I will admit that. Just no interest in keeping them. I have considered meeki, but I've kept thorichthys for 6 years now, time for a change. I have always liked the look of salvini, they're on my list just not ready for them yet. Yah, I also agree, no to convicts lol.

One more suggestion. My favorite fish of all time, the RIvulatus GT. I know it's a S.A., but quality specimens are stunning. A male in your tank would likely reach 8 or 9 inches. A female, probably 7".
The best fish I've ever owned was "Tank" a male GT. He grew to 9" long and lived 6 yrs. Although smaller, Tank, dominated several Festae RT's, but was still mellow enough to be kept
With Silver Dollars and numerous other smaller cichlids.
Not all male GT's are created equal. I searched for months before locating a really good one.
He's only 2" long, but chases his larger Buenos Aires Tetra tankmates all over the tank.
I've never tried a mated pair, but I don't think it would be difficult. Its fairly easy to determine gender of GT's. Just thought I'd throw this out there. I'll post a pic of Tank and one of the baby GT.
