Tank size question

I was thinking about starting up a smaller sized Cichlid tank soon, I wanted to know what the minimum size was for a tank for the smaller dwarf community Cichlids.

I know that certain ones only grow to about 4". Any information would be helpful. thanks

+1 the 40 breeder is an excellent tank and if you ever change your mind it's a great tank for anything

After researching it, i'd definitely pick the 40 or another 55. My next tank is going to be a 8-12 community cichlid tank.

I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to upgrade her tiny cube with her betta in it, I feel bad for it. I'm thinking if I can somehow convince her to get a 20g community, would apistogramma's be alright with a male betta?

EDIT: Or what about a 10g with 1 male betta and an apistogramma pair.
