How different are nano reef tanks from standard tanks? And regarding their upkeep, on a scale from 1-10, how difficult would y'all rate it?

Different from regular reef tanks? Or fw tanks? How small of a tank would you want. The smaller it is the harder it is to keep stable. The smaller it is the less fish species and amount you can keep as well. But honestly as long as you do your research and go slow it’s pretty easy.

If you do research and go slow like a 3. If not like a 10 as your gonna lose a lot of livestock.

Agree with the above.
Of course a 29 gallon is easier than a 5 gallon, so there's quite a range there.

It comes down to bioload. A large tank can be more difficult if the bioload is too high for the available space. It is just easier to overstock a small tank.

As mentioned go slow, add slowly. This gives you an idea of how much your tank can handle.
