Algae scrubber help

Can you set up a scrubber in a sump that has a separately fed pump? I'm considering setting one up in the second chamber of the sump I'm building...

Yes . As long as you get the correct amount of flow to the screen it does not matter where it comes from .
 
So maybe hard line some PVC with a (X gallon per hour pump) and drill holes in the cross pipe that goes over the scrubber mesh material?

*what would be the desired flow for this?
 
You actually have to cut a slot in the pipe the full length of the screen so it can be inserted not just drill holes. Best thing would be an adjustable pump so you can tweak the flow if needed . Flow rate is going to depend on screen size . Recommended flow is 35gph per linear inch of screen .

Go to the fabric section at Walmart and pick up some knitting screen .

As long as you set them up right and have the water level in the sump right below the screen the are quiet .

I believe you can, it just a matter of splitting your drain line.
