Bio Balls

I have heard a lot of things about bio balls and how they are nitrate factories. I have about 180 lbs of LR in 100 gallon tank and it is going to be a reef with many corals. Should i take the bio balls out of the sump? if yes what should I replace it with, if anything?

IMO, yes you have plenty of surface area on the LR for nitrifying bacteria.

baffles to keep the splash of the water from sending micro bubbles back into the tank.
