ok so i am now having a major brown algae out break and i need to know what is the best thing to do i know what started it i left the lights on to long and was using tap water

my clean up crew is four small hermit crabs and two turbo snails

is there any other way to get rid of the algae

Do you have any fishes? also, please list you water parameters,
Ammonia, nitrite, Sg, Nitrate and water temp.
This will help us so we can help you.

i have one fish just a fire fish

and

am=o
nitite=0
trate=20

slanity=1.23
temp= 79

sorry about the spelling

Kill the lights for a few days and start using RO/DI water. I had the same type of outbreak twice now and the lights did the trick. Also pull back feedings to every other day if not already on that feeding schedule.

alright will do i do pcw with mixed water from lfs but this week i have been toping off with tap water cause i didnt have time to get ro

i lowered the light two 6 hours a day

and two of my turbo snails died lame!!!!

but ok i will test and lower feeding and lights even more

Okay, correct me if I got this wrong:
1) You do PWC with saltwater from the LFS.
2) You top of with R/O water.
3) This time you topped off with tap water not R/O water.
4) Is this what you do?
What is the Salinity of your tank wright now?

this week i have topped off with tap water

its only a ten gallon tank so i have to top off alot

it is 1.023

For a fish only...1.023 is okay. Try to bring it up to at least 1.025; See if you can have your tap water tested at your LFS. That will give you a base and let you know what your (as Mike states) phosphates arel

yeah i am slowly bringing it up

ok i will do that

how do i get rid of the stuff that has already grown

As you get a grip on water quality it will disappear. Wipe it off and or suck it out with your PWC.

so the stuff thats on the live rock will go away by itself

If you do the things mentioned above and with a little brushing and blowing with a turkey baster it should go away.
