has anyone here had any expecience with any type of butterfly fish? the lfs has assorted butterflys on sale for $12.99. im not sure on all of the species but i know there is a longnose yellow, black back, and a white one with 3 black stripes(i've seen this before but not sure on the name) as well as a few others that i've never seen before.

IMO, Butterfly fish are difficult to keep. From my experience, they are picky eaters and I would never try and keep one again. My advice would be to have the LFS offer it food, and whether it accepted the food or not would be a determining factor on buying it. I do this before purchasing any questionable fish.

Besides being difficult to keep alive, butterflys are not reef safe. They will pick at corals and eat feather dusters. Copperband sometimes will eat aiptasia but will also eat all your feather dusters. I do not keep butterflys.
