Hob refugium question

I've read that a refugium is a good safe place for pods and other organisms to reproduce safely. Do they go into the main tank on their own or do collect them? I have never has a saltwater aquarium and know pretty much nothing. Are they even big enough to see?

Most of the time they have water going in and water going out. That`s how they get from the refuge to the tank and back.
