How to clean HOB from FW to SW

I am setting up a QT after some mistakes made without one, and want to use my 20g aqueon HOB for the 10g QT. how should i prepare it for the switch?

Get a new filter cartridge and pull everything apart giving it a good cleaning. It doesn't really require anything special.

Clean it out well with warm water and vinegar then rinse it thoroughly. As for media, I'd only use filter floss or sponge and let it cultivate some BB in your main tank.

I have plenty of polyfill and bonded filter pad. Would bleach be better

You can use a mild solution but you don't need to.
