Salinity Level

What is the ideal salinity level for a marine fish only tank?

with a hydrometer the specific gravity would be 1.020 - 1.023, i think the salinity = 27 to 30 parts per thousand but fish only will survive with varied levels, to run your tank at 1.015 is fine temporarily, and if you neglect FW top ups it could climb to above 1.035 and the fish probably wont show any signs of stress

4ft tank 45kg LR- corals-torch coral,button corals,6 fuzzy mushrooms,18 mushrooms,toadstool,platecoral,golf-ball, cricket-ball,sponge and a few trees.fish-snowflake eel,blue-tang,chromie,halchoeres chrysus(banana-wrasse),2 gobies.inverts-2 stars,2 hermit-crabs,anemone-shrimp and a few snails

1.025 I believe is what most average people keep theirs at. I keep mine at about 1.023 I just like it there and tank seems to be doing great! HTH

Salinity is often times measured via SG, but they are tow different things. Most LFS keep SG at around 1.019. This helps keep parasites at bay and saves them $$ on salt. FO tanks at home are fine around 1.019-1.021, reef tanks should be kept at a SG of 1.023-1.025.
Some people are like slinkies...they serve no real purpose yet can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs!:p
Have a great day! Brian
