Id say one in a 40 g and they can get 10" but in captivity, maybe 7?

I keep mine in a 55 river tank with marble hatchets, white clouds, amano shrimp, kuhli loaches and danios. The temp is 74 degrees. Heavily planted with drift wood and river rocks. They mainly eat algae and don't like a new tank. Make sure your tank is mature and let a little algae grow. They will eat other foods and algae wafers but fresh algae is preferred. I treat mine once a week to the dried algae you use a clip for and they love it. Heavy current (compared to most fish) and clean water is a must. They love oxygen rich water.

My system is custom built. PVC pipes run under the gravel, at one end I have two 8 inch sponges and three power heads on the other. Basically a huge undergravel sponge filter.

I just looked online and three sites that I looked on said that they prefer slow moving water like the streams and rivers that they live in in Asia
