Ghost shrimp shell?

I found a shell of one of the ghost shrimp and thought it had been eaten but to my joy they are all still there!
Do they shed the shell or something?

They molt. If it was really dead, it would look like a mini cocktail shrimp.

Yes they go through what's called molting, when they shed their shell and grow a new one. During this time they are extremely vulndurable and should have plenty of hiding spots. Don't remove the shell because they will go back and eat it.
