Gravel vs. Sand

I vac my planted tank to suck up the dead leaves and algae blobs. I'm having issues with beard algae so I suck it out with the gravel vac. :) In regards to actual fish waste, I don't even see it in my planted tank.
 
I have PFS and I love it. IMO looks much more natural than gravel. At first it looked sort of yellow but then I got a new light and it almost looks white (the look I was going for). It is really easy to anchor fake plants, all you have to do is push it in.
 
Wow, thanks to everyone for the great advice. Now I'm pumped to have real plants in my tank. And Plecosterone, the pictures of your tank are very nice. Thank you, and wish me luck! ^_^
