Signs of a healthy betta?

Im gettin a betta from PetCo or PetSmart, and I would like to know what are the signs of a healthy, and sick betta. I just wanna know so I dont choose an unhealthy betta.

I just tap on the container once. If it has a quick and immediate response, I know its still healthy. If not it is possibly diseased. I like getting them preferably-if you can find one-at a local fish store. They take better care of them there.
