starting a 55 saltwater!

Well a friend of mine is trading me his complete empty 55 for my complete and empty 29. He is also giving me an extra over flow. It will be a simple tank. I will have a standard 48" florecent light with 50/50 bulbs. A standard 60 gal double overflow and a 30-75 gallon "Sand Man" over flow. My lfs is cool but reeeaaaalllyyyyy expensive... were talking $60 for a yellow tang and $189 for a purple tang. Neither of which I can afford right now. I am looking forward to everybodys advice! I have a 55 gallon freshwater and am EXTREMELY excited about starting saltwater. My initial shopping list is as follows, 40 lbs of crushed coral, 6 lbs of live rock, 10 lbs of lace rock. One guy and my lfs said get two clowns, another said a couple damsels to start cycling. Id rather start with damsels as they are only $5 each verses $20 each for clowns.

As for stocking the tank the only fish I am set on wanting which I'm not 100% i can even put together is clowns and a yellow tang. Also a goby. I also want to anenomes for the clowns to host. Please help with some inital ideas. I want to get some circulators for the anenomes to move around. My lfs said 2 900 gph. Is that a little much for a 55?

First either scrap the idea of a tang or get yourself at least a 6 foot long tank they like to have a lot of zoom room. For the anemone you will probably need to upgrade your lights. On my 55 gallon I have 2 750 koralias but some of my coral would be happier with more flow. It will really depend on what you want to keep

Well I got a call from an older guy wanting to get rid of some stuff he had laying around for the past year.

I got a 3/4 bucket of instant ocean.

Then I got some misc chemicals.

A water test kit.

A book on marine life.

All for $25. He also has a reverse osmosis kit for $25. Worth buying?
