Only thing I can think of is them killing snails for shells. That won't happen if you buy more shells though.

Did some tests and ammonia and nitrite are 0 for the first time! Wooohoo! Nitrate is 5ppm. Gonna leave it 2-3 more days and make sure the level is stable then add my CUC! Ahh, so exciting. :p
