40-50 gallon new stock?!

What should I stock my tank with. I have a totally peaceful cobalt cichlid I've had since a fry, a rainbow shark & algae eater. Any good additions?

That CAE will bully all the other fish in that tank and suck off their slime coat. I'd ditch it if I were you.

+1 the Chinese algae eaters are notorious for killing many many fish.

I would start with rehoming that.

Next some fish that would work with the CAE gone
Cory Cats
Harlequin Rasbora
Gourami of some sort
Neon or Cardinal Tetras
Really any sort of tetra
Mollies
Platies
Bristlenose Pleco
Praecox Rainbows

If you go with tetras I'd avoid the neons or cardinals just in case the cobalt decides they look like an easy meal. I once added some silver tip tetras to a tank with a pair of yellow labs and slowly the tetras started disappearing.

With a cichlid in the tank I won't think its advisable to add smaller species of tetras . Cichlids are very aggressive . You can add a bristle nose pleco .
