Does my tank have to be cycled to add plants? Will it hurt them? Will it speed the cycling process up?

2. If anything, it will make them healthier.
3. Yes. Well... Kinda. It will help keep the tank more stable to have them established before you finish cycling because when you add fish, they will be able to help you keep parameters under control.
