Stupid question

I have Platys and they find a plant to wedge themselves into. Then they go completely still. Scared the crap out of me the first night I got up and saw this. It's so weird cause they look completely asleep other than the open eyes! They also freak out if scared awake.
 
In the mornings when I turn the light on on our Cichlid tank, the fish are usually still tucked into the rocks, resting/sleeping. They tend to get pretty ticked off when I wake them up with the lights instead of letting them wake up then turning the light on. Teenager fish, gotta love it!
