When I dismantled my shrimp tank I broke my glass diffuser, if I were to buy this one AE Design 150 Spiral Glass CO2 Diffuser £12.99 - Buy CO2 Equipment Accessories
Apparently the spiral acts as a bubble counter, so In theory I can skip a normal bubble counter and run airline from my regulator, to a non return/check valve and then straight into the spiral diffuser, correct?

It is not a traditional bubble counter. You may be able to tell that it is flowing CO2, but it doesn't show you how many bubbles are being injected.

Are you sure? I have the same style diffuser and I am able to count the bubbles fine. It's not a solid stream of air going in the spiral, there is water that gets pulled into the line via a small hole at the bottom of the spiral... At least on mine.
