Hey,

Has anyone here removed(legally) plants from local lakes/ponds? How do you know what is safe? What are the odds of introducing some major nasty bacteria into your tank?

Thanks,

Mike

Quarentine, quarentine, quarentine. Just like for fish, you should quarentine plants if they come from a source you don't trust to be free of pests and contaminates. Further you can treat plants with a variety of dips to minimize the risks, but still when collecting from the wild I would definately want to quarentine the specimens.

30 second hydrogen peroxide dip (new bottle of peroxide to a couple gallons of water). Rinse immediately afterwards. This will remove all surface pathogens but a QT is still recommended in case there is a subdermal infestation (burrowed critter just waiting to come out).

I have and it did ok for a few months but it kind of withered away, even though it was under mid-high light, and with CO2 injections..and doseing ferts.
