I have 55 gallon tank with around 40-50 lbs of live rock could I take my bio balls out and replace it with a reef octopus 150. Tank has been running for over a year

Take out a little bit of bioballs every week until there is no more. You can put in the reef octopus immediately. They both do different things for your water quality. Test regularly for ammonia and nitrItes as you take out the bioballs. You may need to add a little bit more rocks for biological filtration if ammonia and nitrites keep showing up.
