Hydrogen Peroxide

I had a very short conversation with someone at work today about them dosing their FOWLR tank with hydrogen peroxide...What would be the benefit of this? All I really see online is killing algae in reef tanks.

I've never heard of dosing it that way, but I have seen it used as a medication for fish with certain ailments (swab it on with a q-tip), so maybe it's to help prevent disease?
