I'm new to saltwater aquariums, and this is my first forum, too. I have lots of questions! My tank is about four months old and doing well. Is anyone else out there interested in NOT using protein skimmers or R/O water? This may shock some of you, but I keep reading it CAN be done! Would like to hear from you and what you are doing to manage your tank.

I just use LR and a skimmer for biological filtration. I`m assuming when you say you dont need RO that you use tap water. Here is a good link.

Welcome to AA! I do use a protein skimmer but my water change water is tap water . I do let sit a week or two before i use it. 5 years doing this no problems yet .
