New to me 60 Cube

Just picked up a 3 month old 60 gallon cube aquarium set up with canister filter in all accessories dirt-cheap. However the stand which came with-it originally does not have a top the aquarium sits on the edges. I have never seen a aquarium glass not being supported on the bottom? Does anybody have experience with this kind of aquarium? I have the original owner's manual and that's the way it's built it just feels like I need to be putting a support down the middle? Any insight is appreciated
