 I've seen some heat waves on the east coast, but this one is becoming historical and for some deadly. I'm glad I don't service air conditioning anymore

Yesterday the heat index hit 108F(real temp of 100F), but didn't do so until 2pm :ermm: I can only imagine what it will be at 2pm today :hide:

Anyone else on the east coast with a weather station?

If you have AC, double check that your filters are clean. A dirty filter can greatly reduce efficiency, and on a day like today can be the difference between maintaining and not maintaining temp.

A sprinkler to lightly mist the condenser outside will also help if you are having difficulties cooling the house. Too much water on it is not good as you can cause liquid refrigerant to enter compressor(not a good thing). Just a sprinkler that will moisten the cooling fins will help greatly (y)

Live in PA to! Its disgusting outside, The water in my pond got so hot it killed a goldfish so I've been adding some ice cubes every hour or so.

hey there RI reporting in it got 90-95 but felt like 100-105 today its supposed to reach 100-105 i cant even fathom what it'll feel like thank god the petstore i work at has AC but they do make me wear jeans. My moms been keeping tha AC at 73 in the apartment thankfully

edit: its only 10:42 and 85-86° oh joy

Note the high flat spot on graph...That was yesterdays heat index. Today looks like it's going to blast past it.

Another 1/2 hour.....another degree(actually hit 111F and dropped back down) :nono:

I just hope the power doesn't go out

The weather station is also 20+ft in the air, so it's not reading heat from the ground.

Surge or brownout? On days like today you tend to get brownouts(not enough electric). They can be worse than a surge because most equipment isn't protected as well against brownout conditions.

High demand for electric and only so much to go around. Businesses/Homes all have their AC cranking and on a day like today they run pretty much constantly. It put's a strain on the power grid. On LI you could see a drop of over 20v on a day like today.

Then it's kind of like a domino effect. Less voltage means higher amperage draw on electrical equipment/machinery/etc. Transformers run very hot(and draw a lot more amps) when not supplied with enough voltage and eventually can explode/melt. I've almost jumped off a commercial roof when one blew up across the street from the building I was working on. I thought a bomb went off lol.

lol thats scary ermm i wouldnt know wht to call it everyone lost power in the whole complex for about 1minute 2 tops so i guess a brownout?

Probably just tripped a safety somewhere in the grid near you. We had a transformer on LI across the street from our house that they would have to come and reset every time it got too hot because it was overloaded(they finally upgraded it 2 months before I left).

Any weakness in the grid is going to get exposed on a day like today.

Nasty stuff- and same here in Sth Central PA. Forecast for today-

Hi: 100°

Sunny. Patchy fog this morning. Hazy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Very hot with highs around 100. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent. Heat Index values between 105 and 110.

Far from normal. Lots of records falling.

I wish we would get a thunderstorm at least. We need rain in a bad way.

it rained Monday or Tuesday in my parts only made it more humid and muggy when it stopped we want one of those freezing rains that sometimes happen in summer

I think I might be in the lead so far...heat index of 120 here in northern VA.

If power does go out, I'll probably be solely responsible because I've got the AC cranked up so high there's icicles hanging from the ceiling. I'm literally about to go get socks because my feet are cold, lol.

Wow...120 is just nuts. Just hit 115 here  Never thought it would get that hot in NE PA. It's not even noon yet!

My AC hit a wall at 72. Not going any lower(log cabin needs some sealing). I face due south also, so nothing but sun all day. And when it's this hot, if you can keep 74, you are doing good.

I'm in upstate NY. Hot as heck here yesterday too, took your breath away. I put a couple ice packs from the freezer in the filter on the back of my tank hoping it would cool it off a little cause it was up to 80 but its all it ended up doing was melting the ice packs. The worst was I got an AC for Christmas and went to hook it up and thought it was too wide for my windows, had to rig it up with a blanket out the front door for awhile, then when i went to bed I got it in the bedroom window so it works good, it just has the back out though, not all the way like it should be. Supposed to be a "reasonable" 90 today where I live but I will believe it when I see it.

Update @ 11:45:

At least the humidity(%) dropped somewhat, even though that's only because the temp went up...

i have a gsp coming in the mail from CT should be here within the day but im beyond worried for the lil guy *gulp* think the box will repel the heat to a degree?
