I have had my snowflake eel for 3 years now and he leaves all the other fish alone, but he will go after any shrimp or crabs that are not in their shell, he did keep a pet pepperment shrimp for about 6 months before he ate him. Now he's about two foot long and squeezes in his 1.5 inch pvc pipe. I feed him chopped shrimp the kind you buy in the store, and frozen silversides, sometimes I will give him some crab and squid when I can find it.

Thanks for the advice on the clowns guys! Even though I'm about a month away from getting them I'm already browsing around and getting some info lol

Mine does a little dance in my 125g, I really like these guys!

Do they molt too anyone know? I may have lost one yesterday, I found a lifeless one in my cube and threw it away. Hoping he molted cause theya re so cute and have such character!

We just found out the emeralds do in fact molt!

Wow... That was quick... U sure about that guy? Did ur research?

Yes. Reef and fish safe. Frozen krill. When he gets older/bigger. Watch for missing crabs but if fed properly he shouldn't be interested in them.

I was up till 4 am looking for threads an sites with info. If he becomes too aggressive we will have a tank for him when the time comes!

My teacher has a fully grown snowflake eel at about 2-1/2 ft long and it never bothers the fish, but he is fed live shrimps so it will definitely kill any invert you put lol.

If fed frozen or freeze-dried that should help him on not seeing other things as food. But u can't fight instinct.

Carey was what you pulled out hollow? Also when something molts the will be soft for a bit so he maybe hiding until his shell stiffens up some. We have two cray fish and that's what they do.

I want a eel!!! <pout, pout>

Hopefully we can report health and coexistence. This guy was on sale and was fed before being bagged. The guy talked with his hands while we where talking about lights. He was still holding the bag...

Lights what 2 bulb combo will give us a purple tint and still grow well

I couldnt tell, but when I tossed it into the garbage can it fell apart so maybe it was a molt. I usually have at least one molt going on every week as I have so many shrimp and crabs. Plus i just did a water change and they always molt right after one for some reason, I guess it's the added elements.

So, is an eel a good idea? I;m seriously thinking about gettingone for the 90g. But I also would like some other cool things and not sure whats compatible. LOL I'll take those questiosn to my thread later, sorry for hogging yours. :-D

Carey your not hogging. From what I've read. An eel would work very well in an aggressive tank (90g your working on). And snowflakes are peaceful enough for a mixed reef.

I want a wolf eel when we get our predator tank going. Eels need a place to hide, like under a rock. And we all have rocks.

Wolf eels aren't really eels though. I think they're gobies.

i just remembered!!! When I bought my 125g fw tank setup the guy had an eel and gave me this huge rock type thing that has like four ways in! he said he paid $200 for it online and it looks cool. lemme go see if it fits!!

Neat! it will totally fit! It's 15" by about 17". How's it look to you guys?
