Awesome :) Pretty sure I'm going to add a yellow/gold tip torch from this website:

AMDbulbs - Corals

The True Fire and Ice Zoas look beautiful too.. but I'm worried if I put them in they'll take over my whole rock work because they are all joined lol.

Hey guys, pretty sure I'm heading to the LFS today to see if they have any pretty clowns, excited!

I was wondering how long I should have my LED lighting on for once I chuck in my first coral? I currently only have them going 7 hours a day (2 hours blue only, 5 hours with both). Any recommendations? The blue and whites are on separate switches and ratio is 1:1.

I have my lights on 8 hours a day, from 2pm till 10pm. That what way algae growth is reasonable and corals are happy too. You can leave the moonlights on after that until you go to bed

Thanks Ausfish. I currently have my blues on from 5-6, then white and blue from 6-11:30, then blues only from 11:30-12:30. Are you saying I can have the white+blues on for 7 or 8 hours, and the blues on after that until bed?

For example:

Blues 3-4
Blues + White 4-11
Blues 11-12

Do the blues alone cause algae growth, or is that from the whites?

I am currently experiencing algae for the first time growing on the glass, which my new 10 turbo snails are being too lazy to eat! They are just chilling on the rocks most of the time. Most of them are quite small though.

I personally never had problems with blue lights but it's always a trade-off between happy corals and algae. The algae on your glass is probably green spot algae, a b!tch to clean and snails don't like it. Every fish tank I know off has them to some extent and you'll just have to clean the glass. My lawnmower blenny picks on it sometimes but he's not really helping so I still clean the glass. As a tradeoff I leave the light on longer sometimes to intentionally grow hair algae for him to munch on.

Yeah I'm not too sure on what type of algae it is. It kind of grows from only one stem attached to the glass, then more little stems off that. Kind of like a fern I guess. It's a pain in the *** to get off with my magnetic scraper, not really effective. Any best way to get rid of it, or does it go by itself?

A good skimmer, RO/DI water(no tap water), lots of water changes. That's pretty much all you can do except for letting your tank establish over time. Clean it off with a new kitchen sponge or a razor blade and syphon all the remains out since they will otherwise feed more algae.

Two little baby oscellaris clowns and a baby aussie elegance coral are in! They have just been acclimatised and put in the tank.

The two of them are getting along very well and are going around exploring the tank together. I'll put some pics up tonight when the lights are on!

Sorry for the poor picture of the clowns (I have named them Itchy and Scratchy :p), they won't stay still! The clowns are about 1.5" long, and the elegance is a baby, only 2.5" long.

I bought frozen mysis shrimp. I put some in and they only went for certain ones, like some looked bad to them or something? No matter how many times that shrimp went flying past them they ignored it.

They also seemed to spit out what looked like the head or tail or the shrimps after eating one, is this normal?

One other thing, since waking up this morning I noticed they aren't really swimming together like they were when I first introduced them. The slightly bigger one clearly thinks he runs the show, he does these little darts towards the other one and looks like he pretends to nip at him. When he stop doing this? He has been doing it every now and then since adding them last night.

Hey guys, just tested phosphates for the first time with my new hanna egg tester, and it's a 1.15..

I tested the NSW I use from my LFS and it's phosphates are .04, and the RO water is 0.0.

I'm assuming it's not the water I'm using causing the high phosphates as the level is only .04 in the NSW, which shouldn't cause a high reading of 1.15 should it?

If not, what else in a new tank could be causing high phosphate? I've got algae ATM on the back and side glass, which you can just barely see on the photo.

ECHO ECHo ECho Echo echo...

No one likes my new fishies? Or coral? Or knows why my phosphate would be high?

They are awesome! All of the photos posted in all of these threads are making me jealous. I am so close to starting all I need is rock and a stand.

Anyone have any insight as to why my phosphate is so high (1.15) so early in the tank's life?

Are you using ro/di water? Thats the one thing I can come up with....also if you are it might be worth a test of the source water to be sure. I had one LFS selling me ro/di water with phosphates and nitrates in it. :-(
