LOL that is so cute when you said you really talked to her that she should BEHAVE. hehe. sometimes though, it seems like they can understand what you are saying. :-D

It was SO stern too! Lol

I am happy for you that it is working out. From what I have heard/read on here most people have more success with female bettas than with males in community tanks.

We tried with our male betta a few months ago. I went well...for a day. I think it actually would have worked, except we had fancy male guppies that would swim in circles around him flashing their tails. He ignored them for an entire day. I think that shows a lot of patience and what not from a betta, but eventually he took a chunk out of the largest male's tail. Doyle (our betta) then moved to a 2.5 gal of his own for a few months, and as of yesterday has been upgraded to his own* 10 gal tank. There are actually some bottom dwellers and snails in the tank as well, but he has the entire water column to himself.

Its fun seeing them swim around and explore. I think bettas are very curious fish. I am sure your female will enjoy the 29 gallons and friends as well. Congrats.

Oh I was gonna say...we decided to try a betta in a community tank because one of our LFS keeps males bettas in lots of their tanks with load of different fish. We figured it wouldn't be that hard to do. Guess our guppies just were too annoying for Doyle. Oh well. We might try again in the future.

Thank you! When I talk to her and she tilts her head as if she's listening I tell her she's my pretty girl :)
She was so light/pale when I got her I thought she was an iridescent betta.... Her fins and head slowly got peach to reddish to... Is she PURPLE?? I see with this lighting she has some blue in her tail fin...
Do they change color with age or was it probably a sign she was sad and stressed at the store?

Question also: I read females are supposed to get larger than males... Females get 3" and males 2"?? Is this body size without fins and is this true? Is my girl still a juvie or does she appear full grown? She's about 1 3/4" She was TINY when I got her... I'd never seen bettas that small.
My males I've had in the past were always a good 3" with fins...

Female Bettas can get burley!

Wow she's gorgeous! Big girl! Lucy is still about 1 3/4" - 2" or so... I have 4 mth old juvie mollies her size!
Is it true females get larger than males? This is my first female and she about 8 mths old. I've had her since July.
What type is she? All that was marked on her cup was "female betta".

Hi :) thank you!
I looked on your profile and only saw your two Red Wag Platies...

I was curled up with my dog half snoozing on the couch in the dark just now when I was awakened by flip flop sounding splashes coming from what sounded like my big tank... I was alarmed and snuck up on the fish in the dark (yea... I know... SNEAKING up on FISH :) ) thinking maybe my betta had gotten into it with someone... Turned on the light by tank and everyone was sleeping in their perspective places (including Lucy) except Suki... Who seems to get the "fishie crazies" (similar to puppy crazies??) randomly and suddenly skip splash across the water.

The funny thing was... Cesar my male Molly was asleep in Lucy's Cave! Hmmm... And to boot, Lucy was sleeping out in the open! Strange to me... And how Cesar was getting away with it beats me...

You can keep the Betta in your big tank with other fish, but if the Betta fish feels there is a nicer fish in ther then you will see the agression. I have my betta in 72g with danios and neons
