Wow, what size tank?

He's in a ten gallon tank, and I know that's small for him, do I keep up with the filtering and cleaning quite diligently.

And again, what price do you think?

And thank you, he is quite something. :D

Honestly I think you should give him away free to a good home that has the ability to house the fish correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I can do that. And this thread was made so I could get people's opinions, do I thank you for contributing yours.

You raised him in that?

Don't think you can do that?! It's a 10" + fish that no matter how much you change the water it does not belong in a 10 gal tank. I'd think you would want the best for the fish and being in a 75gal + or a pond would be best for the fish's health.

Honestly I don't think you'll make any money off this fish.

I have to agree with everyone else. The main thing right now is to get that fish into a proper home! I'm amazed it even got that big in a ten gallon. If it isn't already, it will soon stunt.

If i were looking into buying a nice fish for my pond/really big tank, I would not cough up money to buy one that was kept in a 10g tank. Not only would I suspect the fish of being unhealthy or stunted, I would not want to give the aquarist my cash.

Would you?

Excuse me! But really, no need to poke fun! Watch what u say! I realize what u say is true, but ease up a little please.
My seventh grade science teacher got him at two inches with his "mate" in this tank, and she didn't really know what she was doing and the mate died. But after tht she got the tank together. When she moved to new jersey I Inherited this fish when he was four to six and inches. He has grown exponentially ever since and has never gotten sick. And also, I have a thriving 60 gallon (now thriving... Wasnt before) and I know everything I can about fish... So please don't accuse me (however subtly) of being an incompetent aquarist. Instead, be open minded and accept my situation (not yours) and please answer the question. Thank you.

Well, for a foot long comet, I'm sure you could get something for him. They aren't the easiest to come by that large, since most people prefer having koi over goldfish in a pond. So, if you found the right buyer, I would guess like $40-$50? A regular (non-exotic) koi that's a foot long will be around a hundred. But, I'm just guessing a price for you. I don't know too much about large goldfish.

No one is poking fun or suggesting that you are incompetent. You asked for options and that's what you got.

Also if you would have told us the whole story behind it you probably would have gotten totally different responses. How I read it was you have a fish in sub optimal conditions and you were trying to make a buck off it.

Please, please rehome him to someone that can properly house him in a pond (or VERY large tank) where he belongs! If you are a competent aquarist, you must realize keeping such a large goldfish in a tiny tank is not in the best interest of the health & well-being of your fish. I would offer him for a $1 on craigslist provided the purchaser can provide him with a proper home. Another option would be to contact your local pond store & see if they can take him or they may have a customer who could.

I know that I am not making fun of you, and I don't think anyone else is trying to. We are trying to answer the question. Someone who doesn't know you're situation that wants a fish and knows a lot about fish might assume you are an incompetent aquarist, and may not want to pay much, if any at all.

First, thank you for your quick and helpful responses, and second, I asked for opinions on pricing, not housing, I appreciate, and share, your concern for my fish(and all fish) but I can assure you I would never do that. In fact, I'm having trouble even thinking about selling him. :/

I was thinking 5-15 dollars for him, but other than that I don't have an educated thought in the matter. That's why I created this thread.

And thanks BettaBabe I see that now. :)
