This is the first entry of my planted Red Cherry Shrimp blog/vlog. Today I moved my 10-gallon tank out of my garage to a very nice little stand next to my bed. I am going to check the shrimp out and maybe even get some tubed (the TopFin kind) plants tomorrow. I am going to have a low to mid-light set up with two 10w 6500k screw in bulbs. The filter I am going to use is either an Aqueon Quiet Flow 10 or an AquaTech 10-15.
I'm hoping to plant the tank with Anacharis, Java Fern, Hornwort, Anubias and some kind of moss. I have two rocks for the tank and I am also going to buy some driftwood as a centerpiece for the moss to grow on. The tank mates for my shrimp buddies will be 3 otocincli, some MTS and maybe a Nerite snail!
I am excited for this tank and I cannot wait to add the beauty of a planted tank to my collection of tanks. I also am excited to breed the RCS and spread the wealth of this great hobby to my friends!

nice going! seems you've worked out all of your problems from the other post, i would love to see pics of your tank every week or so to see the growth :)

I plan on doing a picture update every three days and a video update each week. As with any tank I do not want to move too fast. I plan to buy things in $20 dollar increments (yeah right, that'll never happen). I am so excited for this tank!

What kind of filters are the ones you mentioned?
I have a ten gallon tank and was also goin to have some of the similar plants, MTS, and red cherry shrimp ( but no fish )
Cool! We're like aqua buddies or somethin :|

i would recommend getting a sponge filter because it doesn't disturb the water too much and shrimp love to hang out on the sponge to eat. you can buy one or make one yourself

So bad news-- I went to see the RCS at the pet shop I mentioned near me. They are $5 each...but the good news is that the tank next to it was stocked full of ghost shrimp for $2.50 per dozen. What should I do right now? Order RCS online or get the ghost's?

if you are looking for a shrimp only tank, then i would recommend the RCS cuz they stand out so much from the green leaves or your gravel, which will make them really attractive lol :) i would only get ghost shrimp if i were on a budget. getting shrimp online is fairly safe if they provide heat packs and they usually include a few more shrimp than the description to accomodate for, if, there are any dead shrimp on arrival. if they do die and there arent enough to compensate for em, try to send em a pic ASAP

Well I mean I already tank care of 3 other tanks and I still have to buy the filter, heater, bulbs etc. When it comes time to fill the tank, I will decide then what to do. If I ended up with ghost's would I be able to breed them? Like you said...they would need smaller food, how would I administer it to them?

Now I am starting to really second guess the shrimp tank. Maybe it would be better with fish too...I don't know anymore! Does anyone have any cool ideas for a 10g planted tank with some fish and shrimp?

Change in plans-- I am going to move my single male guppy into my Misc. 5.5 gal with a kuhli loach and a black skirt tetra...then set up my 2.5 gal as a shrimp tank for now and when my birthday rolls around, I plan to set up the 10 gal for something else...not sure yet. Any really off the wall things I could do with a ten gal? I like different stuff.

Stuff you wouldn't typically see. My favorite tank right now is my ACF tank. It hasn't fully matured yet, but I believe it's a boy. I named him Roid due to his growth rate. I like axolotls a lot. I've been thinking about Axolotls, Crayfish, and FBNs so far. Any other cool ideas like that?
And an update on my 2.5g shrimp tank...it is looking great. I took a bunch of pics. I will post them in a few.

I only have Hornwort in there right now, but I will soon be adding anubias, anacharis, and java fern.

stuff you wouldnt typically see would all depend on you. you could create something entirely new with just your imagination

Yeah but I mean what are some aquatic or semi-aquatic animals that are rare for people to keep?

It is awesome because of size and convenience.

You really should. It was a cheap and easy set up. There are some great and easy ferts to use to. I really am having a tough time deciding whether I want to go the cheap easy ghost shrimp route, or the uncomfortable order online rcs route...plus I want to add some kind of fish. It need to be small enough to enjoy the space, but I'm not worried about filtration because it's rated for a 6 gallon and IMO it does the best job for that size of tank. I have sand, so would mts move it too much or are they safe to throw in there too? I was thinking...as long as filtration is good enough in essence couldn't I recreate like a giant planet tank with a small scale size one...like mts are small snails. If I could find fish small enough and rcs it would be like a mini crayfish/fish setup. That would be cool. But if I use a size of fish promotional to another fish of a bigger tank wouldn't it work?
