I just found one of my bronze cories dead in my tank :(( I love those little guys to pieces! I tested my water and water is good, ammo and nitrite both at 0 and nitrate is right at/under 5. All other fish and are perfectly fine, active and as far as I can tell healthy as can be. I hate having this mystery deaths, I feel really good about doing things right and water params are good and a fish dies. Frustrating.

How old was he do you know.

Was he killed by someone else have you added any fish lately

I think Ive had them around 3 months? The first 3 I had were the ones I had for about 3 months, and I just added two more Saturday, not sure if the one that died was a new one or an older one. All other cories seem to be doing fine.

Could've been the beginning of a parasite from adding the new Cories but I don't know and can't be for sure

Sorry about the cory. I've had mysterious cory deaths too, it happens sometimes I guess. My only other guess would be the rams, if they are spawning they can get a bit aggressive but if there aren't any injuries on the fish and the barbels are in-tact then it could just be one of those things that happens.

No injuries that I noticed. I'm fairly sure none of
My rams have paired up even, they all swim together every now and then, I don't have two that aren inseparable either.

You might find less deaths and healthier corys if you stick to a soft sand medium. They get infections easily from banging their tiny barbels on rocks and hard surfaces when eating, they would normally be sifting sand with them.

Another Cory dead :( I guess cories just aren't for me. Sad because I love these little guys :(

This has me so confused and nervous :/ None of my other fish seem to be suffering, my platy fry are acting normal, even my rams seem fine- they are all coloring up nicely and showing no signs of stress or anything and everyone is always very eager to eat, the cories have even been eating. All my water params are good, 0 ammo and nitrite, nitrates are 0-5, pH had been stable as well as temp.

I think I'm going to call LFS tomorrow and see if they will take all of my live cories back.

I forget, are the corys new or have you had them a while? Is their coloring ok? Are they active or hiding? I still suspect the rams; a lot can happen during the night when we can't see it. Corys are more active at night too and the rams might not like it. I could be wrong of course but that seems to be the only real variable other than a potential illness in the corys.

Some are older and some I just got Saturday. My bronze cories have always hid except at feeding time. My peppered cories have always been the more active ones. Their coloring has always been the same, it's never changed or faded any. I plan on moving some of my rams out of the 55 once I get things back in order for my 30g.

Sorry to hear...

I'm sorry you lost your corys. I had just one in my new 10 gallon with a betta and I found him in the bottom a couple days ago. LIke you, water parameters are good. I worried that I didn't feed him enough. I brought home 3 more two days ago. They are going to go into my 30 gallon when I get it set up. I'm thinking of moving them from the 10 gal with gravel to the the 10 gal with sand so they don't hurt their little mouths. The 30 gallon will have sand. I bought some sinking pellets especially for them, though they don't seem to be eating anything yet.

I've been feeding mine sinking pellets as well. Thankfully I haven't seen anymore dead this morning, I'm hoping it was just a case of a weak fish that couldn't make it.

Maybe the two that died were the ones you just brought home. They might have been in bad shape when you got them.
