I inherited these fish a while back. The one has gotten really agressive and although I was blaming a fish genocide in my tank on mismaintenance/dissease I now believe it was this guy. I am now down to these 2 fish. I really would like to add fish to this tank as it is a 55 gallon and looks so empty with only two fish. So my question is what kind of fish are these, are there fish I can add, or should I look to trade this guy at an lFS so that I can stock, I'd like to do some sort of community Cichlid but I'm not sure. Thanks for any advice and for help IDing these two fish.

The second one is spotted grey brown, bottom feeder, kind armored triangle face, hard to get a good pic because hes hiding from the Cichlid. Anythoughts on what kind of fish I can add to this tank? The Cichlid is probably almost 3 inches long.

Probably if you don't want to rehome those two, you should set up a cichlid tank.......but seriously, message a mod and ask them to move this to the cichlid discussion....they can tell you a lot more than I can about these guys

Such a forum noob, how do I find a moderator to message. Btw if a mod sees this please move to Cichlid page, now that I know what I'm dealing with I need to get specific with Cichlids

I read once that is you press the red triange with an exclamation mark in it that it alerts the mods that the post needs attention but I have never done it!!! Or just PM a mod.

That button is the report button, it's only supposed to be used to report spam, harassment, etc.

I can omly see the thumbnail but it looks like a male auratus to me.

The report function can be used to alert the site team of anything from abuse to threads or posts that need moving.

Moved to Cichlid section.

For the record, it is ok to use the report function if a thread is out of place. We always appreciate an assist in alerting us when something needs attention.

Thanks all, and good luck on the ID. I am not a cichlid guy :)

How do auratus get on with other fish?

No an auratus would shred them. They need to be kept in big tanks with other highly aggressive Malawi cichlids. I'm not 100% sure that's what the OP has though. I can only see the thumbnail on my phone.

Based on your description it sounds like you are right. Now I'm getting concerned because he has been going after the pleco. I'm afraid to add more fish because I don't want this guy thinking its an all you can eat buffet.

Find a pair.
