Probably not the right place for this but I'm hoping for some feedback. In the seemingly never ending search for the perfect piece of dw I finally found it. Problem is I can't them to respond to my inquiries. Anyone have experience with manzanita-driftwood.com? They have exactly what I'm looking for. I've sent emails asking for shipping quotes on specific pieces and I haven't heard back from them.

I Pm'd him last week and said he had been doing some traveling so be patient as he could be out of town

I have heard the same thing. I have tried getting some quotes. I thought I was a "shoe in" because, like him, I'm also in California. No response. I have pretty much given up. It's a shame. I found some great pieces.

Too bad too, I agree, he has some awesome pieces. I'll keep trying, although I have emailed over the course of several months.

I wouldn't even bother with them anymore if they couldn't show a little bit of Customer Service and respond to some inquiries.

Try Ebay. Some sellers have WYSIWYG pics of what you're paying for. I've heard a couple good remarks about a seller named sea77777779. He got some nice pieces of Manzanita and Seiryu stone perfect for hardscape. His feedback score is 100% too.

Yeah, I have emailed many times with no reply. So, as Brian said, I went on eBay and bought my DW from susquehanna-x-driftwood, and my stone from sea77777779. Fast shipping at low prices. Came in perfect shape (y) I actually did get a response from manzanita driftwood once, but that was when I was buying some of his Amano shrimp...oh well.

Yay! Got my response and detailed info on how to order. Shipping charges are very reasonable also. I'll see how this goes.

I ordered from him about 2 weeks ago. Pretty good communication all around. I just received my 3 pieces (can't beat the buy 2 get 1 free deal!) last Friday. Attached them to some slate and put them in my tank last night:

The Mopani piece on the left I already had. Also, don't mind the blue pre-filter on there. I'll be switching that out for a black one soon.

Very nice! Did you have to use slate? I read on the site where the pieces should sink after floating them for a few days, depending on the piece of course. How long did it take you to get your shipment after you ordered?
Haha, I use the exact same filter pad cut to fit over my intake tube in my fry tank. It's not the best looking thing but it works. What do you plan to put in this tank?

Thanks!

If you plan on laying the pieces on their side along the bottom you won't have to use slate. But because I have them standing straight up, I decided to use slate to keep them firmly in place.

I believe I was given a window of 2-9 days for shipping. I got the shipped confirmation on the 20th and received them on the 25th.

I'd like to put some jungle vals along the back left behind the Mopani piece. I'd also really like to try a DHG carpet. Also interested in putting some sort of moss on the manzanita to give it the living tree look.

Other than that I'm still trying to figure out what other plants I think would look good.

Scaping can be fun yet it can also be $$ and frustrating. I still can never seem to be satisfied with anything I do lol. I love Vals and I can't wait for the ones in the 15 to grow out. I have some in the 40b too but they're all bunched up in the corner. Like I said...a constant work in progress:D DHG will live in my tank, but it doesn't grow much or run like I wish it would. I'm pretty sure it needs high light and the FugeRay fixture falls in the low/med. range. It's growing my low light plants and I'm not having major algae issues other than something that looks like rust on a few of my sword and anubias leaves. Don't know if it's diatoms, algae or a nutrient deficiency. I'm looking forward to getting that dw soon. I plan to put moss on the branches also. I love that look. Good luck with your build! I'm following along.

Thanks good luck to you as well! I definitely need it!

What are your WPG and/or PAR value (if you know it)? I've tried DHG before in my 50 gallon with 60W of T8 lighting and it sent out at most 2 runners. I'm hoping with more watts and a better water penetrating ability, my 96W PC fixture will hopefully grow DHG sufficiently.

I haven't calculated PAR yet, but I do have a chart for my fixture somewhere. According to the specs I have a total of 18 watts, with 168 HO 7000k LED's. I'm at work right now so I can't measure, but I think the light is positioned about 18 inches above the sub. The mounting legs are short so it sits right at the top of the tank and I don't use any sort of tank cover. I don't think the wpg rule is applicable with LED's though.
Are you planning to inject C02?

No I want to keep it low-tech. I think 2wpg is considered the low end of medium lighting correct? So I'm right on the cusp of medium lighting with 96w over a 50 gallon.

I believe the PAR for my light is around 35-40 which is also considered medium light. So I'm hoping I can get 1 or 2 medium light plants to do OK in the tank. I know they won't take off like they would in a higher-end setup, but I'm hoping they can exhibit their characteristics that make them so attractive in the aquarium.

You should have a pretty good selection to choose from with your lighting. I suggest root tabs and water column ferts. Excel works great for me, with the occasional dry fert dosing. Nothing fancy so far. I plan on playing around with this new 15g and venturing into unknown territory. Hopefully it won't turn out to be an algae farm lol.

I have about a bottle and a half of Excel, but I'm not sure I want to get started on an Excel dosing regiment. I've seen people that have dosed Excel once a week even though it says it should be dosed every 24-48 hours and they've had success with their tanks. Now whether that's because of the weekly dosing of Excel or in spite of it, I'm not sure.

I do however plan on buying Flourish which I can dose once a week and possibly some other dry ferts to add some nutrients that Flourish is lacking. I'm rather good at growing algae so I'm hoping I'm at least half as good at growing plants lol.

I never intended on becoming Excel dependant either, it sort of just happened lol. It's easy and it seems to be helping a little. There are much less expensive alternatives which I'm considering, but for now I'm good. I only dose every few days. I haven't actually worked out a consistant dry fert dosing amount or schedule yet. I"ve had my share of trouble with algae, but so far it's not much of an issue in my latest builds.
