My husband and I are trying to figure out what fish we want to get for our new 55 gallon. We already have fish in our two 10 gallons that we're planning on moving to the 55 gallon once its cycled. We have guppies, mollies, tetras, an angel fish, catfish, and an African dwarf frog. I know my husband really wants some cichlids, but we were told they're too aggressive to have with the other fish. Are there any cichlids that wouldn't be too aggressive? Or any other ideas for what to get?

German blue rams are a dwarf cichlid that is fairly peaceful . They would work :)

Thank you. I just told my husband that and he was excited. Any other suggestions?

There's also golden rams, electric blue rams, and Bolivian rams. They are are fairly peaceful except during breeding they can be aggressive when fish are in their territory.

Festivums are cool, too. Not quite a cichlid, but still a good option. The blue rams are a favorite of mine.

My recommendations would be Bolivian rams and kribensis as they are much hardier then german blue rams and only territorial when spawning.

An Angelfish would look nice! And a school of albino Cory's :)

Its alright, but also i don't really like the way albino fish look. I really love lots of colors which is why i love my guppies so much lol

You could try discus! They might be a problem with guppies though :) not sure how their temperament is.

I don't think Discus would work. There's a lot going on in your new tank already with the Livebearers etc. I just picked up a pair of the German Blue Rams and have it in a tank with several Livebearers. There's also a young kribensis that seems a bit pushy right now, but all seems ok. I recommend you stock your tank slowly and add the GBRs after it is well established. Also, be particularly mindful with these to acclimate really slowly. Once they're in and get comfy, they'll be one of your favorites!

Look into anomalochromis Thomasi (african butterfly cichlid) very pretty and they stay relatively small and are non aggressive should work nicely with the live bearers.

What about African butterfly peacock cichlids? When i image searched the African butterfly cichlid, the first picture that popped up was the peacock one and it was really pretty.
